The Pedalshift Project 167: DC to Cincinnati - Ohio to Erie Trail South

The Pedalshift Project 168: DC to Cincinnati – Ohio to Erie Trail South

Part four of the DC to Cincinnati ride, covering the southern half of the Ohio to Erie Trail from Columbus to Cincinnati. Crossing my 700th mile of the ride, do I have enough left in the tank to make it to the end of the OTET?

Pedalshift Society folks! Stay on the bonus feed and you’ll get a special bonus pod with each episode… kind of a summary of my thoughts on that part of the route! If you join Pedalshift Society at any point in the run, you’ll get access – pedalshift.net/society. Also, I’m riding the Oregon coast a bit soon, so I might record some audio out there… look for it in the feed!

Streamed Thrones last night after checking my data allowance. Could have gone into town but it was much more comfortable in my bag! Went to sleep almost immediately.

Another cold night – woke up about 4 and added a few layers and slept til just before 7.

Rain was steadily spitting – very happy I set up in the shelter – cold wind kept the tent bone dry overnight.

Made a run to the border for some veggie egg wraps and hash browns, plus downloaded some more pods.

Looks like another listener trail meetup is in the cards prior to Xenia!

Doug had mentioned the open farmland of this part of the trail meant headwinds – totally right on. Not too bad but with the drizzle I’m glad I had layers. Staying nice and warm but the legs get cold when I stop for a bit. Not a huge deal.

Rain should clear up soon – looking forward to Xenia in particular as a lunch stop! Sadly the brewery is closed today!

Met with Billy crafton and had a great (if cold) bit of riding to Xenia and grabbed lunch. Talked bikes and adventures and might get a chance to hang again tomorrow in Cincinnati!

May 14

mediocre hotel breakfast.

Play to start I got on the entire trip didn’t leave till 10 AM

Much sunnier and much warmer than the last several days

Saw a horse on the trail and thought about the parallel between that horse and my bike you bringing me all the way here.

As I got closer to Cinci the waves and hellos dropped – we city folk aren’t fazed by bikes loaded with gear I s’pose!

Tons of trikes and recumbents

About to hit a road route on US50 and there’s a brewery called 50West – so naturally I stopped.

BIG thanks to everyone I met on the ride
